For over 12 years, PLANET BABÖ's founder moved through every corner of the yoga universe. But whether she was practicing in a studio class or flowing at home, she kept running into the same problem: athletic wear and accessories were lacking joy and personality. The options out there were either boring, standard mats with giant corporate logos, or flimsy "earthy" mats with stereotypical yogi designs. Nothing felt inspirational or fun. So she asked herself—if movement is so incredibly expressive and inspired, why on earth is the gear not?
She realized this issue goes much deeper than she previously thought. For so long, society has conditioned us—especially women—to treat movement like a necessary chore to fit a certain look or meet a certain goal. Inspiring ourselves was never part of the equation, only force.
The thing is, when we move in ways we actually enjoy, everything shifts. You start to move because you want to. You lose the guilt and suffering tied to exercise. You discover that movement was never about forcing yourself to look or feel a certain way, but about celebrating your body just as it is. When you fall in love with movement, it starts to love you back: you hear your body's needs more clearly, you naturally look and feel better, and you start to show up better for the people around you. Why? Because you are choosing to do things for yourself with love, so you start to do everything with love. That kind of care lasts much longer than any unsustainable obsession with the body ever could.
Our founder applied this thinking to her own life. She’d already discovered her love for yoga, but got lost in the monotony of her practice. To re-inspire herself, she tried to find cute athletic wear and accessories for motivation, but couldn’t find the perfect high-function, stylish fitness gear she was seeking. Instead of giving up, she decided to create it herself. Thus, Planet Babö was born.
